With General Dynamics LTE. The IPWireless network software solution also includes Windows XP support and new reporting capabilities that allow operators to capture real-time and historical performance information about the entire network, and import the data into standard reporting tools - giving operators better information for optimizing their network.

SAN BRUNO, Calif.-Oct. 15, 2002-IPWireless, Inc., enabling go anywhere broadband globally, today announced the commercial availability of its latest release of network software. The IPWireless network software solution features key functional and operational improvements, including Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) authentication, mobile IP, and Windows XP support, as well as new reporting and network management tools for operators. These enhancements strengthen global operators' ability to deliver a new breed of affordable and innovative broadband services. IPWireless also announced the certification of its modems for operation in the European Union, as operators across the continent prepare to deploy the IPWireless solution to launch new services. With these announcements, IPWireless once again demonstrates significant progress in delivering on its vision of Go Anywhere Broadband.
'One of the major drivers for the deployment of a reliable broadband infrastructure is the ability to offer new and valuable broadband services,' said Andy Fuertes, senior analyst at Visant Strategies. 'Before companies invest in the development and deployment of these emerging services and applications, global operators must be equipped with a technology backbone that has all the needed components to deliver new services and to support a profitable business model. Moving forward, USIM authentication and mobile IP will be an essential part of the required infrastructure needed to fully support the next wave of broadband applications.'
Enhanced Functionality for Global Roaming
The USIM authentication and mobile IP functionality in this commercial release of the IPWireless network software solution will enable IPWireless users to enjoy broadband while roaming anywhere in the world, just as GSM cellular phone users do today.
USIM Authentication
USIM card authentication offers enhanced security, improved logistics, global subscriber roaming, easy access to value-added services, and cost-savings in subscription management. Both the IPWireless Go Anywhere Broadband modem and the soon-to-be-released PC Card (PCMCIA) are equipped with easily accessible SIM cardholders. GSM operators currently use SIM authentication to support authentication and security for hundreds of millions of GSM subscribers. Using the IPWireless network software solution, GSM operators can leverage their current SIM infrastructure and processes to support their IPWireless subscribers. Support of USIM is a key first step in making global roaming broadband a reality.
Mobile IP
The new mobile IP functionality allows IPWireless subscribers to roam seamlessly between cell sites at high speeds and to move easily between other networks such as 802.11, UMTS FDD, CDMA2000, or General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) without losing their connection. For example, a user with a laptop connected to a corporate wireless LAN can automatically switch to the wide area IPWireless broadband network without losing the connection.
The IPWireless network software solution also includes Windows XP support and new reporting capabilities that allow operators to capture real-time and historical performance information about the entire network, and import the data into standard reporting tools - giving operators better information for optimizing their network.
'The enhancements in our latest release are squarely focused on providing seamless connectivity between cell sites and networks and offering true computing mobility for the end user,' said Chris Gilbert, CEO, IPWireless. 'This functionality is key to achieving our vision of Go Anywhere Broadband, which enables subscribers to get a fast and reliable connection regardless of their location or device.'
Next-Generation Wireless Network Paves the Way for a New Era of Mobile Computing
The IPWireless network software solution is the first total network solution on the market that complies with the internationally recognized UMTS TD-CDMA (TDD) standard. Available today for operation in the 1.9?GHz and 2.5?GHz licensed bands (the UMTS unpaired allocations and the MMDS/MDS bands), the IPWireless product line includes a complete network infrastructure solution and pocket-sized wireless modems. The advanced non-line-of-sight capabilities eliminate the need for expensive truck rolls and the mounting of antennas or additional equipment at the customer premise. The IPWireless pocket-sized portable broadband modem allows residential and business customers instantaneous, 'plug-and-play' Internet access. Additionally, the IPWireless network solution's non-line-of-sight technology achieves in-building coverage and gives users the complete portability, mobility and freedom of a wireless Internet connection at higher speeds than alternative broadband offerings.
